What is the University Honors Scholarship?

The University Honors Scholarship (UHS) is the top scholarship that ASU awards to its best students. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, each student must be a U.S. Citizen, an Arkansas resident and be a 2009 graduate of an Arkansas high school. Additionally, each student must have one of the following:

  1. Minimum 29 ACT (1300 SAT combined) and a 3.500 cumulative GPA on the sixth semester transcript OR
  2. Be a Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship recipient OR
  3. Be a National Merit finalist or semi/finalist.

Must I apply for admission to ASU to be considered?

Yes! Scholarship applicants must meet university admission requirements and must have an official transcript on file with the ASU Admissions Office in order to be eligible for consideration for a scholarship.

What is the amount awarded?

As the top scholarship of the university, the UHS covers tuition and fees for 15 semester ASU-Jonesboro hours, a double occupancy room on-campus based upon availability, a meal plan and a stipend of $1200 for the academic year.

Is the scholarship renewable?

Yes! In order for the scholarship to be renewed, each student must complete 15 credit hours per semester with a 3.500 cumulative GPA per semester and successfully complete one honors course per spring and fall semester. The scholarship is renewable for up to eight semesters.

How are the UHS scholarship recipients selected?

Once all materials are received, (by the December 1, 2008 priority application date), the admission file for each eligible student will be reviewed by a selection panel. The panel will be looking at each individual student's academic background, co-curricular involvement, and awards & recognition.

When will the UHS scholarship recipients be notified?

The Honors College and Financial Aid & Scholarships office anticipates that all UHS scholarship recipients will be notified by December 31, 2008. If ASU determines that a UHS scholarship alternate list is necessary, alternates will be notified during the same time frame. Alternates who are not ultimately selected to receive the UHS will still have the Chancellor's Scholarship.

How many scholarships will be awarded?

Depending on the eligible applicant pool, the university expects to award between 40-45 scholarships.

What if I am awarded the scholarship?

As the top scholarship of the university, you will be in a select group of students on campus. These students must fulfill the requirements of the University Honors Program. They are taught by the best faculty on campus and are involved in numerous academic, cultural, and social activities.
